“We believe that this is the beginning of a new Barcelona, a Barcelona that will excite again. When I left Barca the club told me that it was a ‘see you later’ and they have kept their word. I can’t wait to hear the hymn of Barcelona in the Camp Nou.” Luis Enrique said.
That was one of the first statements and words that Luis Enrique released after it was officially announced that he would be the next coach of Barcelona as he replaced Gerardo Martino who guided the Spanish team to what was a nightmare of a season.
Luis Enrique now has the task to restore Barcelona to the team they used to be a few years ago but this will be easier said than done as the Spanish side has seen Puyol and Valdes leaving the team and it will be notoriously difficult for Barcelona to find and sign players who can fill in the boots of those players.
Lionel Messi has not been performing at his usual best and this was evident in the previous season when he was unable to score against big teams such as Athletic Madrid and Real Madrid in the finals of the Copa del Rey.
The future of Cesc Fabregas remains unclear as there are a number of clubs interested in signing the former Arsenal player.
When talking about his new role in Barcelona, Luis Enrique went on saying that he wants to back to winning ways and avoid going through any further trophy less seasons.
“We are going to do it my way, no doubt about that, because otherwise the club would have employed a different coach. I am not going to do what everyone else might tell me,”
“Unfortunately we didn’t win anything this past season, so this is the year we have to get back to winning ways. We’ll try everything we can to do that. If we don’t win anything, then we’ll have to look at ourselves, get together and see what the consequences are. There will be some self-criticism and some looking inside yourself. You don’t look for mistakes outside.” Luis Enrique told Barca TV.
