Javier Aguirre snatched his first victory as the manager of the Japanese national side during Japan’s match against Jamaica which was played on October 10 at the Denka Big Swan Stadium and an own goal from the Jamaican born defender Nyron Nosworthy assured Aguirre his first win with his new squad.
Even though the match was nothing more than a simple friendly match and not worth any points for any tournament, it still represented a valuable victory for the squad of Javier Aguirre and the Mexican coach himself as they are getting ready for their upcoming campaign where the Japanese side will have to defend their Asian Cup title.
This victory was a big morale booster for Japan and Javier Aguirre but that morale suffered a huge blow after Brazil caused chaos to the Japanese defenders as Neymar scored 4 goals in another friendly match.
Japan lost 4-0 against Brazil as they played a few days ago but even with this convincing victory for the Brazilian side, Javier Aguirre stepped up and said that he was proud by the performance that his players displayed in the match and the Mexican coach was only testing out new younger players.
“Our objective of this game was to gauge selection options for the Asian Cup, in that sense I was able to observe prospective squad members. I cannot fault the players’ desire as they tried their hardest until the final whistle but you have to remember, we were playing against one of the best teams in the world. I have had four games to look at the squad and already have a rough idea of which players will make it but I will still need the next two friendlies to observe them all before I can finalize my squad for the Asian Cup’’ Japan’s Javier Aguirre told reporters
Aguirre is hoping that Japan will get the chance to play a few more friendly matches in the remaining months of this year before the Asian Cup kicks off in January of 2015 as this will allow the Mexican manager on trying out new things before their title defending campaigns begins on Australia.
