West Brom are currently locked in transfer talks with Saido Berahino over the possibility of signing a new contract. The 20-year-old has become one of the highly rated strikers in the Premier league. He has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United in the last few weeks. It has been rumoured that they are ready to make a January move for the striker. However, Steve Clarke feels that the striker will sign a new contract with the club the next 24 hours. Berahino has already scored goals against the likes of Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Manchester United this season.
He started the season with an impressive hat-trick against Newport. The England under 21 international has also been impressive at international level as well. He already has four goals in just six matches for the under 21 team. He has very little time left on his contract at West Brom, which have led to suggestions that the big clubs will be looking to get a cut-price deal for the striker. Clarke has admitted that there is a lot of negativity surrounding the situation, but he is confident that everything will be sorted in the next few days.
“I’m confident Saido will sign his new deal within the next 24 hours. It will be great for him because he’s a young boy and he’s maybe become a little bit distracted by the fact it’s been going on for so long. That’s been a little negative for the whole situation but there are not too many negatives surrounding Saido this season. He’s been a breath of fresh air in the squad, he’s been a revelation and has made a big contribution to us already,” said Clarke.
He has scored six goals in five starts for the club this season.
